EMSD Received Project Management Achievement Awards 2024

Back Button Back to Successful Cases

The EMSD garnered two awards under the Project Management Achievement Awards 2024 organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management, in recognition of our outstanding projects.

The two winning teams of the Project Management Achievement Awards 2024: the EMSD team for the wrong-way traffic detection feature and HIS project (left), and the team formed by the ArchSD and the EMSD for the renewable energy projects (right).

The EMSD carried out the installation, testing and commissioning works of the wrong-way traffic detection feature and Human Intrusion System (HIS) for the Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel, and won the Project Management Achievement Award in the Construction/Engineering Category for the works project. Originally spanning 12 months, the project commenced in October 2022 and was completed in September 2023 ahead of schedule.  We added the wrong-way traffic detection feature to the existing Automatic Incident Detection System and provided the HIS. Both of them interface with the existing Traffic Control and Surveillance System at the Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel. Moreover, the project contract adopted the New Engineering Contract (NEC) form. We worked closely with various stakeholders and received professional support from the NEC consultants to complete the project within budget.

In addition, in collaboration with the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD), the EMSD carried out mass deployment of renewable energy projects in existing government buildings in line with the Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 to combat climate change. The projects won the Project Management Achievement Award in the Sustainable Projects Category. We utilised modular photovoltaic panels, Building Information Modelling technology, DfMA, and MiMEP approach to optimise project delivery, advance sustainable development and minimise the disruption to the daily operation of the venues. Since 2018, the team has completed over 140 projects, contributing to the goal of achieving carbon neutrality. By expanding the application of renewable energy in existing government venues, we have further reduced carbon footprint. This can foster public understanding of renewable energy solutions and move Hong Kong towards the goal of sustainable development.
