Green innovation is a vital force in driving China and Hong Kong towards carbon neutrality and energy efficiency. The E&M Innovation and Technology (I&T) Day 2025, jointly organised by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Guangdong Association for Science and Technology, with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation as the co-organiser, was successfully held on 26 June at the Hong Kong Science Park. The hybrid event brought together 28 Hong Kong and Mainland exhibitors, attracting over 400 participants from the electrical and mechanical (E&M) trade, I&T industry, tertiary and research institutions in Hong Kong and other Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities. Various client departments participated, and the online live stream drew more than 100 000 viewers, receiving an enthusiastic response.

This year’s I&T Day incorporated green I&T elements for the first time, themed Green Productive Forces: Empowering Smart and Green E&M, Driving New Quality Development. The event featured two keynote speeches, namely Artificial Intelligence Empowers the New Journey of Energy Revolution and Automobile Revolution, and The Development of New Energy: Battery vs Hydrogen. Through seminars and exhibition booths showcasing E&M projects with limitless potential, the event provided the trade with an interactive platform for experience sharing in the application of I&T in decarbonisation and E&M service optimisation, thereby fostering collaboration among stakeholders and promoting the development of new I&T applications.
Mr Poon Kwok-ying, Raymond, Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, interacted with a smart robot on the E&M I&T Day in a lively atmosphere. The event attracted over 400 participants from Hong Kong and other GBA cities who explored the prospects of E&M I&T together.
The EMSD displayed its award-winning projects from the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva at dedicated booths, including two projects developed in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Department (CAD), namely the Two-phase Immersion Cooling System for High Performance Computer Workstation, which won the Prize of the Republic and Canton of Geneva and a gold medal; and the Tracking Solution for Outdoor Activity Safety, which received a gold medal with the congratulations of jury. The former has been successfully applied to the CAD's high-performance air traffic control tower simulator workstation, to enhance the heat dissipation efficiency and extend the lifespan of equipment. In addition, we presented the SmartEye: Remote site supervision system-cum-integrated site management platform, developed by the Development Bureau and supported by the EMSD, which won a silver medal and the prize for the Best International Invention & Innovation. The SmartEye has been applied to some public works projects, assisting site managers with round-the-clock, real-time remote monitoring of construction sites to ensure quality and safety. These award-winning projects fully manifest our close collaboration with client departments and highlight Hong Kong’s outstanding achievement in the global I&T sector.
Mr Chow Hau-keung, Vincent, Deputy Director/Trading Services of the EMSD (centre), led the EMSD team to promote I&T at the exhibition booth. The exhibit shown is a model of the Two-phase Immersion Cooling System for High Performance Computer Workstation.
Guangzhou Metro was specially invited to share on the topic of Innovation and Application of Green and Low Carbon Technologies in Urban Rail Transit, fostering green I&T exchanges between Hong Kong and other GBA cities. As the Government’s Innovation Facilitator, the EMSD has been actively collaborating with clients to develop innovative E&M solutions. Leveraging our extensive experience, we will continue to support government departments in exploring more I&T implementations and developing green productive forces in the future.
